Started playing guitar and singing at age 7, influenced by his brother, who open the doors to all kinds of music. After playing with several local outfits in Barcelona, an 18 year old Alex was recruited by harp bluesman Hook Herrera (Gov’t Mule, Alvin Youngblood Hart) with whom he played in top clubs and festivals in Europe. 3 years later he formed his own band Alex TNT, and got a residence in “La Boite”, a prominent Barcelona music club, as well as playing in other clubs and festivals in the Barcelona area. As Alex TNT, he has released 3 albums, Walking your way (Discmedi, 2001), I feel the blues again (Mas i Mas, 2003) and Alex TNT (Gaztaluzpeko, 2009) all on which he explored different facets of the Blues exclusively. He later joined African bassist/vocalist Steve de Swardt’s blues band, where he met a key influence in his career, string master Javier Mas (Leonard Cohen, Mª del Mar Bonet, etc). He shared countless nights onstage playing together with them and St. Louis drummer Julian Vaughn (Albert King, B.B. KingJohnny Copeland) at the Jamboree jazz club in Barcelona. Durant this time he toured in Canada and the US with Cockrell & the Groove and later with his own band. In Novembre of 2006, Alex had the privilege to open for the King of Blues B.B.King at the Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. After many years on the circuit and being known as Alex TNT, he decides to ultimately shift his artistic identity to ZAYAS for the occasion of the release of his new work Guitarshock (Mitik, 2012), where he underwent a deep self exploration to find a new path through which to forge all of his past and present influences. Alex Zayas has also played with artists such as Larry McCray, Johnny B Gayden, Lynwood Slim, U.P. Wilson (Texas Tornado), Paul Orta, Alvin Youngblood Heart, Mike Wheeler and Rick Perkins, among others… and has perfomed all around Spain, Belgium, Luxemburg, Portugal, Ital, Canada and the USA. 9:00 pm : Kenny \'Blues Boss\' Wayne
Seating starts at 7:30pm. Shows start at 9pm. $15. Please call 403-262-2666 to make your reservations. General Seating, but for Reserved Parties of 6 or more we have your tables ready for you. The Blues Can... Calgary's premier Live Blues Music room & always a great value!!! YOU keep coming so WE can keep 'em coming! Thank You Blues-Canners... WE <3 YOU! Thank you for supporting Calgary's Live Music scene!!!
Born Spokane, Washington. Raised New Orleans, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Based: Vancouver, British Columbia. Home: On the road, somewhere… Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne — resplendent in a brightly colored, French custom-tailored stage suit — hammers out rockin’ boogie woogie, deeply felt blues, and puts a fresh coat of paint on good old-fashioned roots rock and roll. Now with a brand new album, An Old Rock on a Roll on the Stony Plain label, he’s on the road again. He’s been a traveling musician almost all his life, playing in show bands and cover bands in his youth, seeing the world from Texas to Hawaii and from Peoria to Paris. Rediscovering his own blues roots long ago sent his career into overdrive, thanks to his fresh approach to old music, the drive and roaring good-time attitude of his live performances, and his smartly original self-penned songs. As one writer put it: ““When a piano player’s got the three most important things — the playing, the voice, and the look – he becomes the whole package. An artist you just have to see and hear.” Deeply influenced by Fats Domino and Johnnie Johnson, Kenny Wayne’s other heroes include keyboard rockers whose names are beginning to fade into history — men such as Amos Milburn and Bill Doggett, both long overdue for rediscovery by the new generations of blues fans. The new album has been produced by Duke Robillard, who has overseen sessions for Stony Plain by Jimmy Witherspoon, Jay McShann, Rosco Gordon, Long John Baldry, Herb Ellis, Ronnie Earl and many others. The co-founder of the band Roomful of Blues and a former member of The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robillard has more than a dozen of his own recordings on Stony Plain. Robillard’s take on Wayne? “He’s a monster pianist, a soulful singer, and he captures of essence of old school blues and boogie while sounding totally fresh and contemporary,” he says.
